Use your proposals · no invented prices
Compare the scope.
Then compare the price.
Record the same work for both proposals. Unknowns stay visible so a missing item is not mistaken for a saving.
Enter actual quoted amounts. Add only documented adjustments needed to reach the same scope. Keep a planning contingency separate, and use 0 when you have confirmed that a category needs no amount. Blank means not entered.

Known scope total = base + confirmed scope additions. Planning total = known scope total + owner contingency. Compare design, quantities, terms and unresolved conditions as well as price.
What makes the comparison useful?
A documented adjustment accounts for a confirmed scope difference. It is not a guess for an unknown item. If a proposal excludes flashing and you do not have a price for the missing work, leave that item unresolved. Neither total is a guaranteed final cost.
Check whether amounts include the same taxes, access, removal, quantities and products before comparing. Allowances may reconcile later, and contingency should not duplicate amounts already in the contract. Read the line-by-line comparison guide and cost methodology.
